A man accused of killing a 25-year-old individual and stabbing a woman at a birthday party on September 20 was shot dead in an alleged police encounter after he snatched a gun from a cop and fired at them while being taken to the crime scene, according to reports.

Vipul alias Neel Vishnu Parmar was arrested on Tuesday by the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of Ahmedabad City Police, days after he allegedly killed Vaibhav Manvani, 25, at his birthday celebration, according to The Indian Express.

Manvani and his friend were driving along the Narmada canal after dropping off a female friend past midnight on September 19, when Parmar allegedly attacked them in a loot attempt at an isolated place near Ambapur village. They tried to defend themselves, but the attacker stabbed them with a sharp weapon.

Manvani died on the spot, but his friend managed to escape with injuries. Around 15 minutes later, she borrowed a passerby’s phone and informed her father. Parmar was arrested and handed over to the Adalaj police, and the case was later handed over to the Gandhinagar Local Crime Branch (LCB).

How Did The Encounter Take Place?

The alleged encounter took place when the police team took Parmar to the crime scene for reconstruction of the events of the killing, where he reportedly snatched a gun from a cop and fired at the police. One police constable was injured during the shooting and underwent surgery at Apollo Hospital.

Parmar also fired at police vehicles, said Gandhinagar Range IG Virendra Yadav at a press conference. The police opened fire in return and shot Parmar dead. An ambulance was called, and Parmar’s body was sent for a postmortem on Wednesday evening.

Ahmedabad Crime Branch inspector MS Gohel, whose team apprehended Parmar from Rajkot, told The Indian Express that Parmar had previously been implicated in at least one murder case, an attempted murder case, and several other robbery cases, and was released from Sabarmati Central Jail a year ago.
