What started as a disagreement over a Facebook story has ended in tragedy. A 20-year-old factory worker, Prince Kumar, lost his life after being stabbed by a friend who allegedly mocked his post about his grandfather’s death with a laughing emoji.

Prince hailed from Purushotampur village in Bihar’s Kaimur district and had been working in Rajkot with his cousins. Four months earlier, he had lost his grandfather, Rupnarayan Bhind. Like many grieving youngsters, he shared a story on Facebook about the loss. But when fellow villager Bipin Kumar Rajinder Gond reacted to it with a laughing emoji, the gesture quickly turned into an ugly fight.

According to police reports, the two argued over the phone, and later, the matter escalated in person. On September 12, around midnight, Prince was waiting in an autorickshaw near his factory when Bipin confronted him, accompanied by another man, Brajesh Gond. The quarrel turned violent, and Bipin allegedly stabbed Prince.

Prince was rushed first to a nearby hospital and then to Rajkot Civil Hospital. Initially, his injury, a wound about two inches deep on his back, did not seem life-threatening. He was even conscious enough to state the police. But his health worsened over the next few days, and he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). On September 22, Prince succumbed to injuries about 2.30 am.

Following his death, police upgraded the charges to murder. Bipin has been arrested, while Brajesh remains on the run. Investigators are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine whether infection worsened Prince’s condition or if the injury itself was fatal.

This incident highlights how trivial online disputes — in this case, just a laughing emoji — can spiral into deadly confrontations in the real world.
