The eight-year-old boy from Punjab whose battle with a severe kidney disorder captured national attention during the recent Punjab floods has passed away. Avijot’s death was confirmed by Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, who had been supporting the child’s treatment after he met him earlier this month.

Announcing the tragic news on his X account, the actor wrote, “Will miss you Avijot RIP Little angel. Don’t worry will take care of your parents.”

Avijot was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome, a kidney condition requiring regular and costly treatment, nearly Rs 45,000 every two months. The child was required to visit the PGIMER hospital in Chandigarh every two months. However, his family faced severe hardship after floodwaters destroyed their farmland, their only source of income.

The monsoon floods not only cut off access to basic supplies but also disrupted Abhijot’s critical medical care. His village in Amritsar was so severely submerged that residents had to swim to obtain essentials, making travel for treatment nearly impossible.

After his story came to light, the actor, known for philanthropy, and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann came forward to support his treatment.

During the Punjab floods, Sood had personally met the young boy when he went there to provide aid and support relief efforts for the flood-affected people. He had assured his family of all possible support.

On September 7, the actor had shared his pictures with Avijot from the hospital on his X account.

“Met little Avijot today in Punjab — a brave soul with a big fight ahead. We’ll do everything we can to help him heal. Wishing this little angel strength and a speedy recovery. He’s not alone,” Sood wrote in the post.

Later the actor shared that he had spoken to the boy’s family and ensured that the devastating effects of the flood were not going to interrupt Avijot’s treatment. “I’ve spoken with the family, and we’re committed to ensuring that the floods won’t interrupt his treatment,” Sood shared on X.

Earlier, the child’s father had expressed hope, saying that doctors believed with consistent treatment, his son could recover by the time he turned 18.

Despite the family’s hopes and public support, Avijot’s condition deteriorated, and he could not survive the crisis.
