Breaking: Student’s death in Nalanda sparks college unrest, arson; police, students trade allegations

Tension gripped Nalanda, Bihar, after the sudden death of a college student triggered massive unrest on campus. Following the incident, students staged violent protests, leading to arson and chaos inside the college premises. The situation escalated when police intervened to control the mob, and reports emerged of students being lathi-charged. Protesters alleged that the police not only manhandled them but also acted with excessive force, while officials countered that students themselves resorted to violence and damaged property.The exact cause of the student’s death remains unclear. According to initial information shared with authorities, the girl reportedly died after falling from the terrace, though a detailed post-mortem report is awaited. District officials stated that all necessary legal procedures are being followed and the body has been sent to Bihar Sharif Hospital for examination. While the SDM denied that any student was beaten by police, many students continue to allege otherwise, intensifying tensions.The atmosphere in the area remains highly charged, with security forces deployed to prevent further escalation. Investigations are underway to ascertain the real cause of death as well as the sequence of events that led to violence.
