In a major boost to railway infrastructure, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has proposed a new Vande Bharat Express train connecting New Delhi with Punjab’s Ferozepur.

The proposed Vande Bharat train will operate between Ferozepur Cantt — located near the India-Pakistan border — and New Delhi, offering faster and more comfortable connectivity across key regions of Punjab. The train will pass through major cities such as Bathinda and Patiala, significantly improving access to the Chandigarh-Mohali-Panchkula tricity region.

Train Schedule And Route Details

The train will leave Ferozepur Cantt at 7:55 am and arrived in New Delhi at 2:35 pm. The train will cover a distance of 486 km in approximately 6 hours 40 minutes.

The train will halt at Faridkot, Bathinda, Dhuri, Patiala, Ambala Cantt, Kurukshetra, and Panipat before reaching its destination in the national capital.

While the return journey will begin from Delhi at 4:00 om and conclude in Ferozepur at 10:35 PM, with halts at the same stations. The train service can be availed on six days a week (except Wednesday).

Rajpura–Mohali Railway Line Approved

The Railway Minister also announced the approval of a long-awaited railway line connecting Rajpura and SAS Nagar (Mohali).

This 18-km railway line has been a long-pending demand for almost 50 years. The project is expected to cost around Rs 443 crore. Around 54 hectares of land is required for the project which will be provided by the Punjab government.

This new line is expected to significantly ease travel for residents in the region and provide direct rail access to the tricity area. The minister also confirmed that other major rail projects in Punjab, including the upgrade of Chandigarh railway station, are progressing steadily and are expected to be completed by 2026–27.
