A 20-year-old man was stabbed to death in Gujarat’s Rajkot over a Facebook post. The victim, identified as Prince Kumar, was stabbed to death by Bipin Kumar Rajinder Gond, who was arrested by Gujarat police while another suspect was at large.

Prince, who hailed from Bihar and worked at a factory in Gujarat with his three cousins, penned a post on his late grandfather, Roopnarayan Bhind, who died four months ago. Prince posted a story on his Facebook page in remembrance of his grandfather, reported NDTV.

The argument between Prince and Bipin was sparked after the latter reacted with a laughing emoji to Prince’s Facebook post. The verbal altercation turned physical when Prince saw Bipin approaching him on the night of September 12 while he was sitting in an autorickshaw outside the factory.

When Prince turned to go back inside the factory, another accused, identified as Brijesh Gond, blocked him and threatened to kill him. As the confrontation continued, Bipin stabbed Prince on the spot.

Upon hearing Prince’s screams, his colleagues rushed to help and initially took him to a nearby private hospital, before transferring him to Rajkot Civil Hospital. Despite sustaining a a wound approximately 1.5 to 2 inches deep on his back, Prince remained conscious and provided a statement to the police.

The initial medical report did not classify his injuries as serious, but Prince’s condition worsened after four days, and he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He succumbed to his injuries on September 22.

Bipin was arrested on Monday night and produced in court on Tuesday, while Brijesh Gond was on the run after the incident, NDTV reported, citing the police. Police have added Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 — which pertains to murder — to the FIR. Police are awaiting the post-mortem report, with the initial findings indicating injuries and infection as possible causes of death.
