Initially, it was reported that the 52-year-old renowned singer died in a scuba diving accident; however, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma later confirmed that he died while swimming in Singapore without wearing a life jacket. He further revealed that Zubeen Garg was asked by the lifeguards to wear the safety gear.

2nd Post-Mortem Of Zubeen Garg

Assam on Tuesday paid its final respects to singer Zubeen Garg after a second autopsy took place on Tuesday amid ongoing investigations into his untimely death.

“It (second postmortem) is not a demand from the public but from certain fringe elements, and we have decided to conduct it with his wife’s consent,” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, adding, “We do not want to create any controversy over Zubeen, so this decision was taken.”

He also noted that while the autopsy conducted by doctors in Singapore was thorough and technically sound, the second post-mortem is being carried out to ensure there is no scope for political controversy surrounding Garg’s death.
