A five-storey dilapidated building collapsed on Monday in the Central Kotwali police station area of Indore, triggering panic in the locality. Initial reports indicate that several people may be trapped under the debris.

Rescue operations by the police, fire brigade, and municipal authorities are underway to locate and save those still under the rubble.

Preliminary reports suggest that heavy rainfall had caused cracks in the building, weakening its structure. Fortunately, most residents were outside at the time of the collapse, preventing a major tragedy, Bhaskar English reported.

However, the exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined. More details are awaited as rescue work continues.

Earlier, one person died and two others were injured when a shop in a market complex collapsed in Odisha’s Koraput district on Saturday, police said.

The incident took place at a two-storeyed shop, part of the Biswasray Marketing Complex, located in front of the district police headquarters along National Highway-26 in Koraput town, the police said.

The deceased has been identified as 63-year-old shopowner P. Lokesh, one of the three people rescued from the collapsed building’s debris.

Officials confirmed that no other person was trapped under the debris.
