Two men in their 20s were killed in Lucknow on Saturday evening after a Thar SUV crashed into an e-rickshaw. The victims have been identified as Mohit (23) and Umesh Sahu (26).

According to the CCTV footage, the accident occurred around 7.15 pm yesterday in Lucknow Cantonment area. The SUV is seen crashing head-on with the e-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction.

The police said that the driver reportedly abandoned the SUV and fled the scene. Using the vehicle’s registration number, officers later traced and arrested him. He now faces charges including rash driving and causing death by negligence.

The accident in Lucknow has again put the spotlight on Thar, a hugely popular SUV that has been in the news for the wrong reasons, mostly due to videos of rash driving.

Earlier, a woman sustained injuries after being struck by a speeding Thar SUV in the Lohia Nagar area in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district on Thursday.

The shocking episode was caught on CCTV and has since gone viral on social media, sparking renewed concerns about rash driving, especially incidents involving Thar SUVs.

The footage shows the woman walking alongside the road when the Thar, approaching at high speed, rammed into her with great force. The impact of the crash was to the extent that she was thrown onto the bonnet of the vehicle before falling on the ground.

It is learnt that instead of stopping the vehicle and helping the woman, the driver fled the scene immediately, prompting a police investigation.

Police have registered the incident suo motu, even though the victim’s family has not yet lodged a formal complaint or initiated legal proceedings. Authorities confirmed that the woman is currently in stable condition and recovering.
