World Athletics Championships 2025 LIVE Updates: Neeraj Chopra vs Arshad Nadeem headlines the men’s javelin throw final on Thursday (18 September) at the National Stadium in Tokyo as the Indian athlete gets ready to defend his world crown. This will also be the first face-off between Neeraj and Nadeem since the Paris Olympics 2024, where the Pakistani athlete won the gold medal, while Neeraj clinched the silver. Besides Nadeem, world No 1 Julian Weber will also pose a tough challenge for Neeraj, while India’s Sachin Yadav will also be a part of the competition. Can Neeraj win a gold medal again? He always finishes in the top two, at least since 2021.

World Athletics Championships LIVE Updates, Neeraj Chopra vs Arshad Nadeem Javelin Final: Follow latest news and results from Tokyo as India’s star athlete Neeraj Chopra defends his world crown.

World Athletics Championships LIVE Updates: Neeraj Chopra will be defending his world crown on Thursday (18 September) at the National Stadium in Tokyo, with Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem and German Julian Weber aiming to clinch the gold in the men’s javelin throw final of the World Athletics Championships 2025.

Neeraj qualified for the men’s javelin final with an 84.85m throw on his first attempt in the qualification on Wednesday. Olympic champion Nadeem qualified for the final with an 85.28m throw. This will be the first time Neeraj will be facing off against Nadeem since the Paris Olympics 2024, where the Pakistani athlete won the gold with a  92.27m throw. Neeraj clinched the silver with a 89.45m throw.

The 27-year-old Neeraj had won the World Championships gold with an 88.17m throw in Budapest in 2023. He is the first Indian to win a gold medal in the World Athletics Championships. He had also won silver in 2022.

Neeraj faces stiff comeptition from Nadeem and Weber

Neeraj will not only be facing competition from Nadeem, as Weber is also part of the final. The world No 1, Weber, recently won the Diamond League final with a season-leading 91.51m, while Neeraj won the silver in Zurich with a best of 85.01m.

Nadeem was not a part of the Diamond League as he has been suffering from injury issues. Since becoming the Olympic champion, he has only taken part in the Asian Athletics Championships earlier this year, where he won gold with a throw of 86.40m.

India’s Sachin Yadav won the silver medal at the Asian Athletics Championships with a throw of 85.16m, and he will also be a part of the final on Thursday. Sachin qualified for the final with a best throw of 83.67m.
