The Goregaon Police in Mumbai arrested a 40-year-old female staffer at a school on charges of sexually harassing a four-year-old student on the school premises.

According to the details, the arrest was made on September 16 following a complaint by the child’s parents.

The incident took place on September 15 after the girl’s grandmother dropped her off at the school, news agency PTI quoted an official from Goregaon police station as saying.

When the girl returned home, she complained of pain in her private parts. After getting her medically examined, the girl’s family informed the school administration and lodged a police complaint.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested the female staff member of the school.

The Goregaon Police said that the accused had been employed at the school for over two years. They also claimed she allegedly touched the girl inappropriately in the washroom.

The police were also scanning CCTV footage of the school as part of their investigation.

Meanwhile, three female assistant staff members of the school had been called for questioning.

On September 17, a Trinamool Congress panchayat member was arrested on the charge of assaulting the acting headmaster of a state-run school in the 24 South Parganas district of West Bengal.

This came after a dispute about the collection of money for a trip, PTI quoted an officer as saying.

The accused, identified as Tridib Barui, was caught on camera assaulting the acting headmaster in front of students at Birendra Vidyaniketan in Kakdwip on Tuesday.

Barui, who is also the school managing committee (MC) president, allegedly grabbed headmaster Milankanti Pal by the neck and dragged him.

A video of the scuffle outside the school office surfaced on social media, though the acting headmaster alleged that CCTV footage from inside the office was deleted.
