Several queue up from early morning on Wednesday for the registrations of much awaited Vaishno Devi yatra. After a halt of around 22 days, the yatra has finally resumed from September 17. The yatra began at 6 am from both the routes leading to the shrine.

Amid chants of ‘Jai Mata Di’, the devotees gathered to begin their journey. The yatra was suspended due to a devastating landslide that claimed 34 lives and injured 20.

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) on Tuesday announced to resume the yatra from September 17, depending on the favourable weather conditions.

“Jai Mata Di Vaishno Devi Yatra shall resume from September 17, 2025 (Wednesday) subject to favorable weather conditions. Devotees are requested to stay updated through official communication channels,” SMVD Board’s post reads.

The announcement brought joy to the several devotees who were camping in Katra town — the base camp for the pilgrims visiting the shrine.

Early morning onwards, hundreds of devotees started to gather at Banganga Darshani gate, the starting point of the yatra.

“The resumption of the Yatra marks a reaffirmation of our collective faith and resilience and the board remains committed to upholding the sanctity, safety and dignity of this revered pilgrimage,” an official told PTI.

“We are extremely happy that the yatra has resumed. We reached the base camp from Pune two days ago and it was a difficult wait but we were sure that we are going to have a ‘darshan’ before returning to our hometown,” a woman pilgrim, part of a group from Maharashtra told PTI.

A large number of devotees will reach for Mata Vaishno Devi darshan in the coming days, especially during the upcoming Navratri scheduled to start from September 22 till October 1.
