Malabar neem is rapidly becoming one of the most profitable trees for farmers and wood growers, due to its ability to produce quality timber in a short period of time. Experts highlight that within just ten years, the tree grows sufficiently to yield several quintals of wood.

Renowned for its durability and resistance to termites, Malabar neem wood is considered among the best for making plywood, ensuring constant demand in the market.

The plywood industry particularly prefers Malabar neem because, unlike rosewood, teak, or mahogany which take decades to mature, this tree becomes commercially usable within 6 to 10 years. Farmers cultivating it can start earning returns much earlier than with traditional hardwood trees.

Malabar neem wood is widely used in construction, agricultural tools, roof planks, tea boxes, matchsticks, pencils, musical instruments, and most importantly, plywood. Its multipurpose utility and assured market value make it an attractive option for cultivators seeking reliable returns.

Medicinal plant expert Ravikant Pandey from West Champaran, Bihar explains how to prepare a nursery. He suggests filling polybags with soil mixed with vermicompost and husk before planting seeds at a shallow depth. Regular light watering is required until germination, after which irrigation should be scheduled at fixed intervals.

For large-scale farming, the land must be ploughed, levelled, and prepared before planting nursery-raised saplings. Farmers report that in just six years, one Malabar neem tree can fetch up to Rs 7,000. Planting 350 trees on an acre yields around 10 quintals of wood, translating to over ₹24 lakh in earnings.

The potential, however, increases drastically with time. By the tenth year, Malabar neem wood is sold directly to furniture companies at about Rs 1,000 per square foot. One mature tree can yield 30–50 square feet of timber, worth around Rs 30,000 each. With 350 trees on an acre, farmers could earn more than Rs 1 crore in a decade.
