Manchester United linked with another Premier League manager as Ruben Amorim fails to deliver

With Manchester United struggling to find victories under manager Ruben Amorim, the English giants are being linked with another Premier League coach.

Manchester United are being linked with a new Premier League manager in European media after the club suffered a 3-0 defeat against Manchester City on Sunday. Man United have lost two out of four matches in the new English Premier League season under Ruben Amorim, besides being knocked out of the League after defeat to a League Two side.

Since moving to Old Trafford, Amorim has only collected 31 points in 31 Premier League games, and their four points from the first four games are United’s worst start in the League since 1992-93.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Stubborn Amorim hurting United?

One of Amorim’s biggest weaknesses has been his insistence on playing the 3-4-3 formation, which doesn’t suit most of the United players. It has forced players like Luke Shaw and Brandon Fernandes to play out of position, while United’s midfield has often been found to be lacking enough numbers.

Amorim, however, has refused to change, stating that the club may have to change the manager if they desire a tactical shift. “It is not a record you should have at Manchester United,” Amorim said after the defeat to City. “You have no idea what happened [privately] during these [past] months but I accept that. I am not going to change. When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man.

Amorim added that United are improving as a team, even if the results do not highlight the progress. “We talk about this every game that we lose. I believe in my way and I am going to play my way until I want to change. I see that we are doing better but the results don’t show that.”

Nonetheless, Amorim is under a lot of pressure, and a more poor results could see him leave the club. Then who will replace him?

Man United linked with Unai Emery

Give Me Sport says United could be interested in signing Aston Villa manager Unai Emery as Amorim’s replacement. The former Arsenal coach helped Villa finish sixth in the Premier League last season. However, Villa are currently 19th in the table with no wins and two draws from four games.

Still, the 53-year-old Spanish coach, who has managed Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla in the past, could be a good choice for United. He has won big trophies in his career, including four UEFA Europa League titles and the Ligue 1.

It will be interesting to see if United decide to pull the plug on Amorim, who has been backed vehemently by the club so far.
