From Junk Shop Romance to Brutal Killing: How a Live-In Relationship Turned Deadly in Chikkaballapur

In the quiet lanes of rural Karnataka, family feuds usually mean loud arguments or the occasional cold war over property. But in Kolar district, two separate incidents have jolted the idea of home as a safe place. They are tales of love gone astray, of trust shattered, and of choices that turned ordinary relationships into tragedies.

In M. Tummalapalli village of Srinivaspur taluk, 28-year-old Rekha’s marriage to Manjunath once seemed steady. Over time, she began a secret affair with Shashikumar. When her mother-in-law discovered the relationship and warned her to end it, Rekha and her lover allegedly decided to silence the older woman forever.

Police say the pair attacked the unsuspecting mother-in-law with sharp weapons one afternoon when no one else was home. Neighbors heard cries and rushed in, saving the woman’s life. The Rayalpadu police registered a case and arrested both Rekha and Shashikumar. The community now struggles to understand how a family bond could twist into such violence.

Scrap-Shop Romance Ends in Murder

A few miles away in Chikkaballapur, another grim story unfolded. Ramijabi, a mother of four from Srinivaspura, left her husband and children to live with Babajan, a scrap dealer already twice married. Their romance began in a junk shop and soon became a live-in relationship that shocked neighbors but endured for years.

That fragile arrangement collapsed when Babajan, reportedly drunk, returned home one night and started an argument. In a sudden rage, he picked up a machete and killed Ramijabi. Locals describe their relationship as passionate but volatile, a love story that burned too hot and ended in irreversible loss.

These two incidents, separated by only a few kilometers, reveal how hidden desires and quiet resentments can erupt into violence. In places where family honor is cherished and gossip travels fast, secrecy and jealousy can turn everyday lives into cautionary tales.
