A couple in Kerala was arrested on charges of torturing two persons, including stapling their bodies and private parts, and using pepper spray, after inviting them to their house.

According to PTI, the accused were identified as Jayesh and his wife, Reshmi, residents of Charalakunnu near Koipuram.

Police said the couple tortured one man from Neelamperoor in Alappuzha on September 1 and another from Ranni in Pathanamthitta on September 5.

The FIR registered at the Koipuram Police Station stated that the first victim, a 19-year-old from Neelamperoor, was “tied up, threatened with a dagger, beaten with an iron rod, assaulted with a cycle chain, and attacked with a cutting plier.”

PTI reported that the couple allegedly seized his two mobile phones, pepper-sprayed his genitals, stole Rs 19,000 from his wallet, and threatened him against disclosing the incident before dropping him at an autorickshaw stand.

On September 5, the second victim, who had previously worked with Jayesh, was allegedly beaten with an iron rod, had staples pinned at 23 places on his body, including his genitals, and was robbed of money and his mobile phone before being abandoned near an isolated area, PTI reported.

The incident came to light after one of the victims was admitted to a hospital.

Initially, he gave a false account that he was attacked by unidentified persons. But when taken into confidence, he revealed that Jayesh and Reshmi were behind the torture, an officer from Aranmula police station told PTI.

Police said they will be questioned further to ascertain their motive.

Whether they targeted more victims remains to be investigated. One of the victims claimed they were assaulted as part of a black magic ritual, but this needs to be verified, an officer added.

Meanwhile, a police source told The Indian Express that Reshmi had maintained a relationship with both the victims and that Jayesh, angered after finding her WhatsApp chats with them, planned to take revenge and roped her into the plan.

As per the report, the 29-year-old victim from Ranni told police, “Jayesh wanted me to come to his home on the day of Onam and join the celebrations. When I reached his house, Jayesh greeted me with pepper spray and thrashed me without any provocation.

Both my hands were tied, and I was hung from a wooden pole overhead. Reshmi brutally attacked me with various objects, including iron rods,” he said.

He further stated, “While Reshmi tortured me, Jayesh recorded it on a mobile phone. My privates were stapled several times. At around 8 pm that day, the couple took me on Jayesh’s scooter and abandoned me at a location called Puthumon.”

According to PTI, the couple, arrested on Friday, were produced in a court and remanded to judicial custody.
