Amit Khare Appointed As Secretary To Vice President CP Radhakrishnan

Amit Khare is an IAS officer of the 1985 batch from the Bihar/Jharkhand Cadre. He has been serving as Advisor to the Prime Minister since October 12, 2021.

The Central government on Sunday appointed former bureaucrat Amit Khare as the Secretary to the newly-appointed Vice President CP Radhakrishnan. Khare had been serving as Advisor to the Prime Minister since October 12, 2021, handling matters related to the social sector in the PM’s Office.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Amit Khare, IAS (Retd.), 1985 batch, Jharkhand Cadre, as Secretary to the Vice-President of India,” an official order said. He will be appointed on a contractual basis at the rank and pay scale of Secretary for a period of three years, starting from the date he assumes charge of the post.

Who Is Amit Khare?

Amit Khare is an IAS officer of the 1985 batch from the Bihar/Jharkhand Cadre. He joined the Government of India as Secretary, Information & Broadcasting, on May 31, 2018, and later served as Secretary, School Education and Literacy, as well as Secretary, Higher Education.

Khare has held several prominent positions in both the central and state governments throughout his distinguished career in public service. He was Secretary, Board of Revenue, Bihar, the first Commissioner of Commercial Taxes of Jharkhand, Additional Finance Commissioner, Jharkhand and Principal Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary, Finance & Planning Department, Jharkhand

A graduate of St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, he also holds a postgraduate degree in Business Administration from IIM Ahmedabad. Khare is widely recognised for his significant role in uncovering the ‘fodder scam’ in Bihar.

Vice Presidential Election

Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan took oath as the 15th Vice President of India on Friday at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Radhakrishnan in the presence of senior government officials and dignitaries.

The NDA nominated Radhakrishnan as the vice presidential candidate after the sudden resignation of his predecessor, Jagdeep Dhankhar. He secured 452 votes against Opposition candidate and former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy, who received 300 votes, in the vice-presidential election on September 9.

Radhakrishnan was serving as the governor of Maharashtra when he was named as the vice presidential nominee of the BJP-led NDA.
