‘Madharasi’ day 9: Sivakarthikeyan’s film mints only Rs 1.35 crores

'Madharasi' box office collections day 9: Sivakarthikeyan's film struggles after week one; mints only Rs 1.35 crores on Saturday

Sivakarthikeyan and AR Murugadoss’ film ‘Madharasi’ has struggled to maintain the box office momentum in its second week. After a promising first three days, the film witnessed a sharp decline in collections starting from Monday. On Day 9, Madharasi managed to earn only around Rs 1.35 crore across all languages (early estimates), taking its total India net collection to Rs 53.15 crore.Weekday drop proves costlyAs reported by the Sacnilk website, after raking in Rs 13.65 crore on day 1, the film’s earnings fell to Rs 4.15 crore by its first Monday and continued slipping further through the week. The first seven days closed at Rs 49 crore, largely powered by Tamil Nadu audiences, but the film’s second Friday and Saturday saw further dips, with just Rs 1.8 crore and Rs 1.35 crore respectively. On day 9, Tamil occupancy stood at 37.16%, with morning shows registering just 23.10% before picking up modestly in the afternoon at 38.52%.Star cast and expectations’Madharasi’ was promised as a mass entertainer with Sivakarthikeyan leading an ensemble cast that included Rukmini Vasanth, Vidyut Jammwal, Biju Menon, Vikranth, Prem Kumar, and Monisha Vijay. With AR Murugadoss at the helm and the highly talked-about team-up, the audience was expecting magic from ‘Madharasi’. ‘Madharasi’ reviewWith a 3-star rating, an excerpt from ETimes review for the film reads, “Sivakarthikeyan’s robust performance and Vidyut Jamwal’s swagger power Madharaasi in a big way. The former, with his beefed-up look, is a far cry from the roadside Romeos that we have seen him play in the early years of his career, and his intensity during the action sequences establishes that he’s now in the big league. As for the latter, after Thuppakki, he gets another memorable antagonist role, where he puts his brawn and screen presence to superb use.”DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
