Russo Brothers thank fans as 'Avengers: Doomsday' trailer crosses 500 million views in 24 hours; fails to beat 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' record

Marvel Studios’ surprised fans around the globe when they released the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ trailer on Monday. The clip soon took social media by storm, and registered a record-breaking debut. The first official trailer for the highly anticipated superhero epic amassed 503 million views within its first 24 hours, making it Disney’s biggest trailer launch ever and the second-biggest trailer debut in history.

Second biggest trailer launch ever

According to Disney, the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ trailer raked in an estimated 503 million views globally in its first day online, placing it behind only ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, whose trailer debuted with 719 million views. The launch also surpassed Disney’s previous record holder, the 2024 ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Super Bowl teaser, which drew 365 million views, including its television broadcast audience.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo celebrated the achievement by thanking Marvel fans on social media. Sharing stills from the trailer, the duo wrote, “A huge thank you to the best fans in the world! 500M trailer views in 24 hours. We can’t wait to share Doomsday with you. See you in theaters December 18th…” The Russo Brothers return to the MCU after directing ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, ‘Captain America: Civil War’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

Trailer teases MCU’s biggest crossover since Endgame

The trailer that released on Monday, gave fans their first extended look at ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which is being positioned as the MCU’s biggest ensemble film since 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’. The footage teases a threat spanning the multiverse that brings together the new Avengers with the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, as they prepare to go up against Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. in his first MCU role since bidding farewell to Tony Stark.The preview also features several returning Marvel heroes, including Chris Evans’ Captain America, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Letitia Wright’s Black Panther and Channing Tatum’s Gambit, among others.

Advance ticket sales off to a blockbuster start

The trailer’s release coincided with the launch of advance ticket sales for select premium-format screenings. The film generated USD 16.5 million in first-day advance ticket sales, despite bookings initially being limited to premium large-format auditoriums.According to studio insiders, many premium screenings scheduled for December 17 and 18 sold out shortly after tickets became available online.The ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ first-day presales are twice as high as those recorded by ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ during its first day of bookings. That film ultimately opened to USD 211 million domestically and grossed more than USD 1.3 billion worldwide.

One of the year’s biggest releases
