In a major crackdown late Thursday, Memari police seized Rs 72 lakh from a Kolkata-bound passenger bus from Bhagalpur, at Palsit toll plaza on National Highway 19. The cash, hidden in two bags, was counted using a machine, authorities said.
Four individuals were subsequently arrested for failing to provide documentation for the substantial amount. Those detained have been identified as Shambhunath Verma, Bablu Das, Krishna Das, and Naveen Kumar Singh, all residents of Bhagalpur and Banka districts in Bihar. The police carried out the operation based on a tip-off from confidential sources.
