Heavy monsoon rain has caused widespread disruption across Delhi-NCR, with Delhi receiving more than 127 mm of rainfall in the first seven days of August, reportedly the highest for the opening week of August since 2011. Severe waterlogging has been reported in Gandhi Nagar, Vasant Kunj, Sangam Vihar, Madangir, Mahipalpur, ITO, Shahin Bagh and several other areas. In Sangam Vihar, roads were submerged under several feet of water, forcing people to push their vehicles through flooded streets. Water also entered Safdarjung Hospital, causing difficulties for patients and attendants. Meanwhile, rising Yamuna water levels have added to concerns. The river is reportedly just below its 204.5-metre warning level, with officials warning it could cross the level within around 36–48 hours. About 48,000 cusecs of water was released from Hathnikund Barrage on Friday, with the water expected to reach Delhi later. Gurugram has also witnessed severe waterlogging, raising fresh questions over the city’s monsoon preparedness and drainage infrastructure.
