Suriya recalls financial crisis during ‘Karuppu’ release, says, ‘Jyothika was trusting me and allowing me to take the risk of loans’

Actor Suriya has opened up about the challenges he faced during the release of his comeback movie ‘Karuppu’.Although the fantasy action film eventually turned into a commercial success, its journey to theatres was far from smooth. The actor revealed that unexpected financial issues created immense pressure just before the film’s release.Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Suriya looked back at the difficult period and explained how the last-minute developments forced him to make tough financial decisions. He also acknowledged the support he received from his wife, actress Jyothika, during that time.

Suriya reveals last-minute financial burden

During the interview, Suriya spoke candidly about the financial strain he experienced before ‘Karuppu’ reached cinemas. He explained that the unexpected situation required him to arrange additional funds at short notice. He said, “It was a lot financial burden on me which came on last minute and for me to take those extra loans. She was trusting me and allowing me to take the risk of loans. If something goes wrong as a family we will be facing it. Even if we are in an industry for such a long time, these situations are a little above us. It was a big step for me to take but there was trust that was present at that time.”

Jyothika praises Suriya’s commitment

When asked about the same incident, Jyothika shifted the focus back to Suriya and praised his determination to ensure the film reached audiences. She made it clear that the effort behind overcoming the crisis belonged entirely to him.She said, “This was completely his work. But we do everything together, even when we are parenting we are always on the same side of the page we never really discuss. Here it was completely his generosity and him wanting to make the film work its way out. It was a big film.”

‘Karuppu’ overcame release-day setback

‘Karuppu’ was originally scheduled to release in theatres on May 14, 2026. However, audiences were left disappointed after several morning shows were cancelled because of last-minute issues. The film eventually reached cinemas a day later. While the makers never officially disclosed the reason behind the disruption, reports at the time suggested that pending financial obligations had delayed the release. After those issues were resolved, the film opened in theatres and went on to perform well at the box office.

All eyes on ‘Vishwanath and Sons’

Following the success of ‘Karuppu’, Suriya is now gearing up for the release of his next film, ‘Vishwanath and Sons’. The bilingual family drama is directed by Venky Atluri and is scheduled to hit theatres on August 14, 2026.The film features Suriya in the role of an international shooter, with Mamitha Baiju playing the female lead. The music has been composed by GV Prakash Kumar. Go to Source
