The Delhi government has decided not to pursue legal action against individuals who participated in the recent student protests. According to a statement issued by the Home Department, the Delhi Police had registered a total of 13 cases related to the demonstrations as of July 29. The government announced that all these cases will be treated as closed, and no further legal proceedings will be initiated in connection with them. However, this relief will not apply to individuals who have a prior criminal record. The government clarified that the Supreme Court’s directions regarding such cases will be strictly followed. Additionally, if any protesters were arrested or detained during the demonstrations, their cases will be reviewed, and the process for their early release will begin. The decision aims to provide relief to peaceful participants while ensuring that individuals with criminal backgrounds are not granted the same benefit. Overall, the government has emphasized that while the registered protest-related cases will be withdrawn and no further action will be taken, those with criminal records will remain subject to legal proceedings in accordance with the law.
