Parliament: Anti-Paper Leak Bill in Rajya Sabha Amid Opposition Demand for Amit Shah’s Statement on Student Protest

The Anti-Paper Leak Bill is set to be introduced in the Rajya Sabha after being added to the supplementary business list, amid continued opposition protests over the alleged police action during the student demonstration. Opposition MPs are demanding that Union Home Minister Amit Shah appear in Parliament and respond to allegations related to the use of force against students. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has called for an independent high-powered committee under the supervision of the Supreme Court to investigate the police action during the July 20 protest, stating that students deserve justice. The government has rejected allegations of firing on protesters, with Union Minister Jitendra Singh saying that no minister orders firing and such decisions are taken by administrative authorities like magistrates. He also reiterated that no bullets were fired and only tear gas was used. The political dispute has also drawn comparisons with past firing controversies, with the Samajwadi Party targeting the BJP over its stance on earlier incidents. Opposition protests continued in both Houses, with slogans demanding answers from the Home Minister.
