RELIGIOUS POLITICS ALERT: Kanwar Yatra Sparks Political Row, AIMIM Questions UP Government’s Arrangements

The holy month of Sawan has begun, and with it, the annual Kanwar Yatra has started as millions of Shiva devotees set out to collect and offer holy water. However, political controversy has also erupted around the pilgrimage. AIMIM spokesperson Shadab Chauhan has questioned the arrangements made by the Uttar Pradesh government for the Kanwar Yatra. He raised concerns about traffic management, administrative preparations, and alleged issues of intoxication and misbehaviour by some participants during the journey. He questioned what steps are being taken for verification, identification, and public safety. The BJP has hit back, accusing AIMIM of indulging in divisive politics and attempting to create a vote-bank narrative. The Samajwadi Party also criticised AIMIM, saying that the entire Kanwar Yatra should not be portrayed negatively because of the actions of a few individuals. The political debate over the Kanwar Yatra has intensified, with parties exchanging accusations over religious practices, government arrangements, and law-and-order measures.
