Politics: Prahlad Joshi Given Additional Charge of Education Ministry After Dharmendra Pradhan’s Resignation

The resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the BJP-led government has given the additional charge of the Ministry of Education to Prahlad Joshi, who already oversees the Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and New and Renewable Energy portfolios. Accepting the new responsibility, Joshi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his trust and pledged to discharge the duty with humility, sincerity, and full responsibility. Since the BJP first came to power in 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Education Ministry has been led by several ministers. Smriti Irani served from 2014 to 2016, followed by Prakash Javadekar from 2016 to 2019. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ held the portfolio from 2019 to 2021, and Dharmendra Pradhan served from 2021 until his resignation in 2026, making his tenure the longest among them. Reacting to Pradhan’s resignation amid the NEET and paper leak controversy, Home Minister Amit Shah stated that for BJP workers, the nation’s interests and the future of the country’s youth are more important than holding office. He emphasized that the Modi government respects students’ aspirations and will not compromise with the country’s future.
