Lou Koller, who was best known as the frontman and vocalist of ‘Sick of It All,’ has passed away. In 2024, he first revealed that he had tumours in his body and had been diagnosed with cancer. Since then, the musician had balanced his life in the industry while getting treated for the cancer.

Lou Koller passes away at 59

The famed musician passed away at the age of 59, following a long battle with cancer. Taking to their Instagram account on Friday, the band shared the sad news with the world, stating, “It’s with unbelievable sadness that we announce to our worldwide hardcore family the passing of our brother Lou Koller. The level of loss that we feel at this time is overwhelming.”They further discussed their “beloved friend” and how much they would miss him. “This year would have marked Sick of it All’s 40th anniversary as a band, and Lou’s camaraderie, commitment and enthusiasm were always steadfast throughout the years. We have lost a beloved friend and an iconic frontman. Lou had the power to raise everyone’s spirits at our shows with a smile and a sarcastic comment, and he won people over wherever we played, from every culture and every corner of the world. ” They also thanked everyone who helped them and Lou out in the past two years and donated to his medical fund all this time. “You all helped Lou feel very special and very loved as he battled away these last two years. His battle is over now, and he can finally rest. Hopefully he can somehow still see and feel the beautiful, positive mark he left on the world.”

Many of them posted heart and prayer hand emojis in the comment section, while a social media user posted, “Rest in peace, Lou”, while another person shared, “A legend, his impact can’t be understated. None of us would be here if not for him. He was an example, a true gentleman always. Our condolences to family and loved ones.”Many people from the industry also reached out and shared their condolences and paid their respects in the comment section. Vocalist Jamey Jasta wrote, “I am so sorry. We love you Lou. We love you SOIA. Thank you for being in our lives & making the world a better place”, while Doro Pesch shared, “My deepest condolences. We all love you Lou! You were the best, the coolest, and a massive inspiration to us all! We will miss you terribly! R.I.P.” Singer John Joseph also posted, “I can’t hit the like button on that, but what a fucking loss, man one of the coolest brothers I ever met in hardcore, always there for other people. God bless him and his family.”

About Lou Koller

Lou Koller’s journey in music started in 1986, when he, along with his brother, Pete Koller, formed Sick of It All with drummer Armand Majidi. After releasing their debut album, ‘Blood, Sweat and No Tears,’ in 1989, Sick of It All became one of the most popular hardcore and rock bands of the time, quickly finding new heights of success. In 1993, their trio grew as Craig Setari joined the band officially. Sick Of It All released their last album in 2018, titled ‘Wake the Sleeping Dragon!’ The group has been touring on and off since then.In 2024, Koller shared his cancer diagnosis with the world and revealed that doctors had found a tumour in his oesophagus, which had also spread to his stomach. He revealed that he had Adenocarcinoma, which, according to the Cleveland Clinic, “is a type of cancer. It starts in the glands that line your organs. Adenocarcinoma cancers can affect several areas of your body, including your lungs, stomach, pancreas and colon. Treatment options include surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Survival rates vary depending on the location, stage and type of adenocarcinoma.”Koller was a beloved member of the music industry and will be remembered for his strong vocals and his powerful presence on stage.
