Monsoon Alert: Monsoon Fury Across India: Floods, Landslides and Rescue Operations Intensify

The monsoon has intensified across several parts of India, triggering floods, waterlogging, landslides and widespread disruption. Jammu and Kashmir is among the worst affected, with heavy rainfall causing flooding in Baramulla, Akhnoor and Kishtwar. The Army has been deployed in Uri to rescue stranded residents, while rising Chenab water levels have increased the flood threat in Akhnoor. In Kishtwar, floodwaters damaged a temporary cofferdam at the Ratle Hydroelectric Project. Maharashtra’s Nashik is also facing severe weather, with the rising Godavari threatening villages and heavy rain causing waterlogging in Trimbakeshwar. Gujarat has witnessed widespread flooding, particularly in Surat, Vapi, Tharad and Navsari, where homes, roads and vehicles have been submerged. Farmers have suffered major crop losses due to strong winds and torrential rain. Army and NDRF teams are conducting rescue operations in Navsari, including the evacuation of a pregnant woman. Surendranagar has also reported disrupted village connectivity.
