Delhi Student Protest: Police Tighten Security Around Jantar Mantar, 18 Metro Stations Shut

The student protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar has entered its 36th day, prompting Delhi Police to significantly strengthen security around the protest site and routes leading towards Parliament. Following the July 20 Parliament march, permanent multi-layered barricades have been installed along Parliament Street and Jaisingh Road to prevent protesters from moving towards Parliament. Police personnel have reportedly had their leave cancelled, while 10 additional CRPF companies are being deployed to reinforce security in the capital. The ongoing agitation is also affecting Delhi’s public transport. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has temporarily shut entry and exit at 18 stations, including Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, ITO, Supreme Court, Janpath and New Delhi. Interchange facilities remain available at select stations such as Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat. Delhi Traffic Police has also advised app-based cabs, food delivery, quick-commerce and logistics companies to restrict services in areas covered by Section 163 restrictions.
