The student protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar has entered its 36th day. Following the July 20 Parliament march, Delhi Police has significantly tightened security around the protest site and nearby areas. Heavy barricading has been installed on Parliament Street and Jaisingh Road, with iron rods, metal bars and welding used to permanently secure the barricades. A six-layer barricading system has also been put in place near the main road close to Jantar Mantar to prevent protesters from marching toward Parliament. Police personnel have reportedly had their leaves cancelled until further orders. Meanwhile, the Centre has directed that 10 additional CRPF companies be airlifted from Chhattisgarh to Delhi. The move indicates that security arrangements in the national capital have been strengthened considerably amid concerns over further protests and possible attempts to march toward Parliament.
