Paper Leak Row: Opposition Sticks to Education Minister’s Resignation Demand, Congress Weighs Stand on Anti-Paper Leak Bill

The political standoff over the paper leak issue continues as the Opposition remains firm on its demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Congress sources indicate that the party is unlikely to participate in discussions on the government’s proposed anti-paper leak bill unless the Education Minister steps down. However, the final strategy will be decided after consultations with alliance partners. Congress leaders have maintained that the government cannot proceed with discussions on a new law while avoiding accountability for the existing examination system failures. The party is expected to hold a meeting with its Opposition allies to decide the next course of action in Parliament and outside. Meanwhile, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has accused the government of being arrogant and ignoring students’ demands. Opposition leaders questioned why the government is focusing only on new measures instead of addressing specific concerns raised by protesting students. The government, however, defended its position, stating that students’ interests remain its top priority and that the proposed fast-track courts and strict legal provisions will ensure punishment for those involved in paper leak cases.
