Few textiles carry as much history as the South Indian Madras check, but Diana Penty just proved it can be as contemporary as any couture fabric. Styled in a set by Anamika Ananth, she offered a masterclass in blending heritage with cool-girl energy. This wasn’t the stiff, straight-off-the-loom fabric of memory. Instead, it was reimagined, elevated, and ready to turn heads on and off the runway.

Diana Penty’s look begins with trousers cut from handloom Lyocell Madras fabric, lined for structure and longevity. What makes them stand out is the element of play: custom glass beads strung on a dori that transform into detachable accessories. With this clever detail, one set becomes many moods – proof that luxury today is as much about versatility as design.

At the heart of the ensemble sits a bralette that celebrates craftsmanship. Created from Mangalagiri weave Madras checks, it is meticulously hand-pintucked and panelled, with a distinctive paan neckline. The silhouette draws on traditional South Indian blouse-making techniques but updates them for a fashion-forward 2025 sensibility.

Then comes the showstopper: a dupatta reinterpreted as a top. In handloom cotton, it is draped, pleated, and gathered into a billowing cape that seems to float with the breeze. Ethereal yet grounded in artisanal craft, it’s the kind of detail that turns a textile into a statement.

What sets this set apart is more than its design. It’s the philosophy. With a price tag of Rs 30,000, this co-ord is consciously crafted from sustainable handloom textiles, designed to last beyond trends and seasons. Each element invites rewearing, mixing, and styling anew.

Diana’s minimal approach – sleek hair, understated jewellery, and effortless confidence – lets the ensemble breathe. She doesn’t overpower the garment; she lets it speak.
