Kiran Abbavaram reacts to ‘Obsession’ comparison backlash; says he never claimed ‘K-Ramp’ was better

Actor Kiran Abbavaram has responded after facing criticism online over his comments comparing his Telugu film ‘K-Ramp’ with the Hollywood film ‘Obsession’. Kiran made the remarks during a recent podcast appearance.Several users interpreted the actor’s comments as an attempt to compare the two films. Others felt he was claiming that K-Ramp and Obsession were similar in more ways than one.

Kiran Abbavaram says his remarks were misunderstood

Kiran first spoke about Obsession while appearing on the Chari Not Sorry podcast. During the conversation, he joked that several of his friends had told him the Hollywood film reminded them of ‘K-Ramp’ because of a similar storyline. While promoting his upcoming film ‘Chennai Love Story’, Kiran explained that he only referred to one common plot point and never intended to compare the two films as complete works. As quoted by Hindustan Times, Kiran said, “I don’t know why they’re turning it into something negative. All I said during a fun conversation was that some of my friends watched Obsession and told me it has the same plot point as K-Ramp. I just mentioned it there. I don’t know why they took it like that. Because what’s wrong with saying, this particular point felt similar? I didn’t compare both films.” The actor further clarified that he has immense respect for ‘Obsession’ and acknowledged its global popularity. According to Kiran, his remarks were made in a light-hearted manner and were never intended to undermine the Hollywood film.Kiran said, “Obsession is a bigger hit than ‘K-Ramp’; it has universal reach. I have a lot of respect for that and was just being funny. I feel like I said it in a flow; they won’t watch that. When it’s written about, the perception is made that I said K-Ramp is better than Obsession. I never said that, so I hope everyone watches what I actually said. I respect other films more than my films; I would never demean someone else’s film.”

A look at the two films

Released in 2025, ‘K-Ramp’ stars Kiran Abbavaram and Yukti Thareja in the lead roles. The story follows Kumar Abbavaram and Mercy Joy, focusing on a young man who tries to help a woman struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).On the other hand, ‘Obsession’ features Michael Johnston as Bear and Inde Navarrette as Nikki. The story revolves around Bear, whose wish for Nikki to fall in love with him leads to unexpected consequences after a supernatural twist changes his life.
