Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that another ‘Deadpool’ film is officially in the works. The actor, who is rumoured to star in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, gave Marvel fans a reason to celebrate when he shared that work on the next ‘Deadpool’ film is underway. Speaking during Fanatics Fest 2026, Reynolds revealed that plans to bring Wade Wilson back to the big screen are in development, although he stopped short of revealing if it would be in ‘Deadpool 4’ or if he would feature in a possible new X-Men ensemble within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Ryan Reynolds confirms new ‘Deadpool’ film

“There’s a few really deep cuts I think are missing from the movies. I think there’s a few deep cuts from some of the comics… There’s stuff upcoming. There eventually will be another Deadpool,” Reynolds said. While the actor kept plot details under wraps, his comments mark the clearest indication yet that Marvel Studios is moving forward with another outing for the fan-favourite antihero.

Ryan Reynolds on developing the next Deadpool film

Reynolds’ announcement follows months of speculation surrounding the franchise’s future after the actor indicated that he wanted to step back from the franchise. He later clarified that his next creative idea for Wade Wilson would likely place the character in more of a supporting or ensemble role rather than making him the sole focus of the story. Reynolds later went on to suggest the next film could take a different direction from the previous trilogy. It is still unclear whether the upcoming project will officially be titled ‘Deadpool 4’ or evolve into a larger Marvel crossover.

Deadpool to join the X-Men?

Previous industry reports have suggested that the film could feature three or four X-Men characters, potentially expanding Deadpool’s role within the MCU.

Deadpool to return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Meanwhile, Wade Wilson is all set to return in Marvel Studios’ upcoming crossover, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. He will join a host of other heroes, including Captain America, Thor, The Fantastic Four, the New Avengers, Shang-Chi and more. While conflicting reports have circulated regarding the film’s ensemble cast, Deadpool, although not an official part of the lineup, is expected to make a cameo. However, it must be noted that these reports have not yet been confirmed.’Doomsday’, which sees Robert Downey Jr returning to the MCU, along with Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, is slated for release on December 18.
