Poland-Russia Tensions: Poland PM Donald Tusk and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that the country is facing its most dangerous moment since World War Two after multiple drones were found across Polish territory following overnight airspace incursions. Speaking to Polish Parliament, Donald Tusk said, “I have no reason to claim we’re on the brink of war but a line has been crossed and it’s incomparably more dangerous than before. This situation brings us the closest we have been to open conflict since World War Two.”

Authorities confirmed the discovery of seven drones and the remains of an unidentified object in several regions. According to Polish interior ministry, five drones and debris were located in Lublin province near Poland’s eastern border with Belarus and Ukraine.

But two other drones were found far deeper inside the country: one in a field in Mniszków, central Łódź province, around 250 km from the Belarusian border and another near Elbląg in northern Poland, close to the Baltic coast.

Interior ministry spokeswoman Karolina Galecka said investigations were underway and security forces remained on high alert. The origin of the drones has not yet been publicly confirmed though Warsaw has repeatedly accused Russia of violating its airspace during its war in Ukraine.

How European Leaders Reacted To Drone Incursions In Poland?

The incursions triggered swift and strong reactions across Europe as French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the drone incidents as “simply unacceptable” and said he would meet NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte soon.

European Council President Antonio Costa warned that “peace and security in Europe cannot be taken for granted,” pledging increased defence investment in response to what he called Russia’s “reckless” actions.

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said it was “hard to believe” the drone strikes were a coincidence, accusing Russia of “systematically probing to see how far it can go.”

Finland’s President Alexander Stubb added that Russia “seeks escalation” and “carries responsibility” for violating Polish airspace.

Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics expressed full solidarity with Warsaw, stressing that European allies “must be working together.”

Hungary’s Viktor Orban, one of the few EU leaders maintaining ties with the Kremlin, also called the incident “unacceptable.”
