Tension continued at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar after activist Sonam Wangchuk was shifted to a hospital by authorities amid his ongoing hunger strike. While Delhi Police has maintained that the action was carried out following Delhi High Court directions and medical advice, protesters at the site have raised questions over the manner in which the operation was conducted. Some protesters alleged that they were informed about the arrival of a medical team, but claimed that personnel in civilian clothes were involved in taking Wangchuk away. They also questioned the timing of the action and alleged that it happened when some key members of the protest group were not present at the location. Police officials have not confirmed these allegations and have stated that the move was undertaken for medical reasons. Following Wangchuk’s removal, a heavy security presence was witnessed at Jantar Mantar, with Delhi Police and paramilitary forces deployed in large numbers. Authorities appealed to protesters to peacefully vacate the protest area, while some demonstrators continued raising slogans expressing their dissatisfaction over the development. The protest stage where Wangchuk had been sitting was later cleared, and security personnel took control of the area. Police officials said the protest permissions had expired and that further action was being taken in accordance with legal directions. Meanwhile, Abhijeet Deepke, who has been associated with the protest, was reportedly not seen at the location after the incident. Volunteers and supporters remained present, expressing anger over Wangchuk’s removal and seeking clarification from authorities.
