Long before she became one of Hindi television’s most recognisable faces, Archana Puran Singh has looked back on an important turning point in her life, revealing that her teachers had envisioned a future for her in the civil services rather than the entertainment industry. Ahead of the release of Prime Video’s upcoming comedy-drama ‘Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya’, the actor shared that her academic record made many believe she was destined for the IAS or IFS. However, her decision to pursue acting left them surprised and disappointed.‘They were genuinely disappointed’: Archana Puran Singh reflects back on her teachers’ expectationsIn a statement to IANS, Archana Puran Singh recalled being a consistent topper and a teacher’s favourite throughout school, a track record that led her teachers to repeatedly nudge her toward a career in the civil services. She explained that in that era, strong academics were widely assumed to lead toward the IAS or IFS, and her teachers held the same expectations for her. When she chose acting instead, she said her teachers were “genuinely disappointed,” unable to understand why she’d walk away from what they saw as a secure, promising future.Recalling her school days, Archana said she was consistently at the top of her class and one of her teachers’ favourite students, “I was always first in class and definitely a teacher’s favourite. My teachers kept saying, ‘You should join the IAS or IFS.’ Back then, if you were good at academics, people automatically assumed you’d pursue one of those careers. That’s exactly what my teachers expected of me too.”The actress admitted that her decision to enter the film industry came as a shock to those who had mentored her, “So when I told them I wanted to become an actor and entered the film industry, they were genuinely disappointed. They simply couldn’t understand why I would walk away from what they believed was such a promising future.”Looking back, Archana believes following her passion was the right decision.”Strangely, I was both a teacher’s favourite and a disappointment to them. Looking back now, I find it quite amusing. But life has a funny way of working out. Acting gave me a career filled with love, laughter, and experiences I could never have imagined.”She also had a heartfelt message for her former teachers.”I hope that if any of my teachers are watching me today, they know their favourite student carved her own path, and it turned out to be the right one.”About Adarsh Baal VidyalayaArchana Puran Singh will next be seen in ‘Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya’, a Prime Original series that follows an unlikely headmaster as he rallies his staff to turn around a struggling school despite everyday challenges and limited resources, with themes of hope, resilience and community running through its seven episodes. The comedy-drama is directed by Himank Gaur, created and executive produced by Biswapati Sarkar and Sameer Saxena under Posham Pa Pictures, and written by Biswapati Sarkar, Akshay Asthana, Nupur Pai, Tatsat Pandey and Meghna Srivastava.
