‘Pallichattambi’ on OTT: When and where to stream Tovino Thomas and Kayadu Lohar’s film

After a successful theatrical run, Tovino Thomas’ period action drama ‘Pallichattambi’ is all set to reach a wider audience through its digital premiere. Directed by Dijo Jose Antony and written by S. Suresh Babu, the Malayalam film was released in cinemas on April 15. Following its run on the big screen, the makers have now locked its OTT release date.

When and where to watch ‘Pallichattambi’

The makers have officially announced that ‘Pallichattambi’ will begin streaming on Sony LIV from July 24. The announcement was made through the platform’s official social media handles along with a new poster featuring the film.Sharing the update, Sony LIV wrote, “നാടിനും നാട്ടുകാർക്കും പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട ചട്ടമ്പി ഇനി SonyLIVൽ #Pallichattambi streaming from July 24th exclusively on SonyLIV.”

A story rooted in Kerala’s political history

The film is set in Kerala in 1958, and follows Krishna Pillai who is a carefree rowdy whose life changes after he becomes the feared Pallichattambi.The narrative is set in the hill village of Kaaniyar where tensions continue to rise between the Church and communist groups. Krishna Pillai, who is also known as Christopher, is brought to the village from Thomapuram by Church authorities. Christopher is a Yakshaganam performer who portrays Ravana.

Prithviraj Sukumaran plays a key antagonist

The film draws inspiration from the Vimochana Samaram, the political movement that eventually contributed to the fall of Kerala’s first communist government.One of the major highlights of the film is Prithviraj Sukumaran’s portrayal of Patellar who is a ruthless landlord who represents an entire class of oppressive landowners.

ETimes review praises the film

The film received a positive response from ETimes, which appreciated both the storytelling and Tovino Thomas’ performance.The ETimes review reads, “A touch fantastical towards the end, yet grounded in realism, director Dijo Jose Antony and writer Suresh Babu craft a largely compelling narrative that gives Tovino Thomas another memorable role.”
