‘The Odyssey’ headed for Rs 20 crore debut in India

'The Odyssey' advance box office report: Christopher Nolan's epic headed for record-breaking debut; to cross Rs 20 crore mark in India

Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ is all set to make an epic debut at the Indian box office this Friday. The filmmaker’s long-awaited mythological epic, slated to hit cinemas on July 17, has reportedly witnessed an exceptional start to its box office run with advance booking reports suggesting that the film is well on its way to scoring an opening day gross collection of over Rs 20 crore, with trade estimates suggesting that the collections could even touch Rs 25 crore, if the current trend continues.

‘The Odyssey’ crosses Rs 10 crore in advance bookings

With just hours to go before its big debut, the film has reportedly already sold tickets worth approximately Rs 10 crore gross, including blocked seats, for its opening day, as reported by Sacnilk. The advance booking figures have set the film up to become one of the biggest Hollywood openers of the year in India. The film has been witnessing particularly strong demand in IMAX, 4DX and other premium large-format (PLF) screens, where ticket rates, even for morning shows, are anywhere between Rs 700 and Rs 2,800. Some theatres have even reported sold-out shows while others are filling fast.

Premium formats driving collections

Nolan, who already has a huge fanbase in the country, will have a wide release for the film in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. This wide release is expected to rake in the big bucks at the box office this weekend. If the film continues to maintain its pace, it could just score a huge Rs 25 crore gross debut in India.

‘The Odyssey’ opens to good reviews

‘The Odyssey’ opened to a strong 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from around 79 critics reviews. The film could just benefit from positive audience word of mouth, and spot bookings to potentially emerge as one of the highest-grossing films of 2026.

‘The Odyssey’ to hit USD 200 million at global box office

Meanwhile, according to a report on Deadline, ‘The Odyssey’ is projected to earn between USD 90 million and USD 100 million in its opening weekend in North America, while worldwide collections are expected to exceed USD 200 million. With a reported production budget of around USD 250 million, the film, that is believed to be the director’s most expensive film to date, could just cross its production budget in the opening week.

‘The Odyssey’ cast and release date

Based on the ancient Greek epic, ‘The Odyssey’ stars Matt Damon as Odysseus and features an ensemble cast including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal and Benny Safdie. The film releases in cinemas worldwide on July 17. Go to Source
