Actor-comedian Vir Das opened up about missing out on a role in Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s upcoming film ‘Digger’. After the first trailer for the Tom Cruise-starrer dropped on Monday, Das shared his reaction on X and then took down the post. Das wrote, “Gave two auditions for this. They went with Riz Ahmed. Was severely crestfallen, but that’s life. This script is insanity, in such a good way.” The candid admission showed his graceful acceptance of not landing the part.

The film ‘Digger’ follows Digger Rockwell, described as the world’s most powerful CEO, who goes on a desperate mission to convince humanity that he is its saviour after his own actions trigger a catastrophic global disaster. For the role, Cruise undergoes a significant physical transformation. He appears with a thick Southern accent, a beer belly and thinning white hair styled in a comb-over, making for a striking departure from his usual on-screen persona.

A powerhouse ensemble cast

The supporting cast includes John Goodman as an ailing US president who urges Rockwell to address the crisis. The film also features Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, Burn Gorman, Robert John Burke and Michael Stuhlbarg. The project is slated for theatrical release on October 2, giving audiences something to anticipate.

The film brings together Sheeba Chaddha, Arunoday Singh, Ahsaas Channa, Atul Kulkarni, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Suhail Nayyar, Puja Sarup and Naveen Kaushik.
