The franchise confirmed the development in an official statement, explaining that the decision was reached after discussions between both parties.
“The Super Kings and Stephen Fleming have decided to mutually part ways, bringing to a close one of the most successful and enduring partnerships in the history of the Indian Premier League,”
“The decision was reached with respect and gratitude, following a series of open and honest discussions between Fleming and the Super Kings management.” CSK added.
A Legacy That Defined An IPL Giant
Fleming’s journey with Chennai began in the inaugural IPL season in 2008, when he represented the franchise as a player under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.
After CSK finished runners-up that year, he was appointed head coach ahead of the 2009 campaign. What followed was one of the most decorated coaching tenures in IPL history.
Working alongside Dhoni, Fleming guided Chennai Super Kings to five IPL titles while also helping the franchise lift two Champions League T20 crowns.
Despite the sustained success, recent seasons proved challenging. CSK struggled to maintain their usual standards after the gradual leadership transition from Dhoni to Ruturaj Gaikwad, prompting a period of rebuilding for the franchise.
Although his tenure has now concluded, Fleming leaves behind an unmatched legacy at Chennai Super Kings, having helped shape the team’s identity, culture and sustained excellence across nearly two decades of IPL cricket.
