Political tensions have intensified in western Uttar Pradesh following the Lalita Gautam murder case in Meerut, with opposition parties questioning the alleged conduct of the SSP during a protest demanding justice. The controversy erupted after visuals surfaced showing the SSP allegedly assaulting protesters, leading to widespread criticism from political leaders and public groups. The issue gained further momentum after Azad Samaj Party chief Chandrashekhar Azad attempted to visit Lalita Gautam’s family but was stopped by police before reaching the village. His supporters raised objections over the police action, questioning restrictions imposed on those trying to meet the victim’s family. Meanwhile, BJP leader Sangeet Som has announced that he will visit Chirot village in Meerut to meet Lalita Gautam’s family. However, authorities have restricted entry into the village, including access for media personnel. Reporters at the spot claimed that they were stopped around 1.5 kilometres before the village and were informed that entry had been restricted following instructions from senior officials. According to local reports, only residents whose Aadhaar address mentions Chirot village are being allowed entry, while relatives and acquaintances attempting to meet the family are also reportedly being stopped. The restrictions have raised questions among political circles, with leaders demanding transparency in the investigation and access to the affected family. The situation remains tense as authorities maintain a heavy police presence in the area. Political reactions are expected to continue as leaders from different parties attempt to visit the victim’s family. The key question now remains whether the administration will allow Sangeet Som to enter the village or impose similar restrictions on his visit.
