Political tensions escalated dramatically in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) denied an election ticket to former Home Minister Narottam Mishra, triggering widespread protests by his supporters. Demonstrations continued for more than 15 hours, with protesters blocking a national highway, resulting in a traffic jam stretching nearly 20 kilometers. Supporters of the senior BJP leader gathered in large numbers, demanding that the party reconsider its decision and restore Mishra’s candidature. As protests intensified overnight, police attempted to persuade demonstrators to disperse. However, the situation turned violent after alleged stone-pelting by protesters, prompting police to resort to lathicharge to regain control. Heavy police deployment remains in place as the situation continues to be tense. Meanwhile, Narottam Mishra’s supporters have occupied the BJP district office in Datia, vowing to remain there until the party leadership reviews its decision. Several party workers, district leaders, municipal representatives, and local office bearers have joined the protest, reflecting growing dissatisfaction within the party’s local ranks. Protesters have also warned BJP candidate Abhishek Tiwari against entering the party office, further highlighting internal divisions ahead of the elections. According to party sources, Mishra’s name was reportedly included in the initial panel for candidature, but the ticket was ultimately denied based on internal feedback. The developments have exposed signs of internal unrest within the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, where Narottam Mishra has long been regarded as one of the party’s most influential leaders. With supporters refusing to withdraw their agitation, all eyes are now on the BJP leadership to see whether it responds to mounting pressure or stands by its candidate selection.
