Electric passenger vehicle retail sales jump 108% to 31,823 units in June: FADA

Electric passenger vehicle (ePV) retail sales in India more than doubled 107.8 per cent year-on-year to 31,823 units in June, while EV penetration in the passenger vehicle segment rose to 7.7 per cent, according to the latest retail data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) on Tuesday.

The segment also recorded a 19.3 per cent month-on-month increase from 26,682 units in May. Electric passenger vehicles accounted for 7.7 per cent of total passenger vehicle retail sales during the month, up from 6.6 per cent in May and 4.8 per cent in June last year.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles retained its leadership position with retail sales of 12,187 units, registering a 17.9 per cent month-on-month increase and a 126.7 per cent jump over June 2025. Mahindra & Mahindra followed with 7,766 units, posting a 25.1 per cent sequential growth and a 121.1 per cent rise year-on-year.

JSW MG Motor India ranked third with 5,861 units, up 17.6 per cent from May and 24.9 per cent from June last year. Maruti Suzuki India, which recently entered the electric passenger vehicle market, retailed 1,919 units, while VinFast Auto India recorded 1,404 units during the month.

Among other manufacturers, BYD India sold 873 units, up 51.3 per cent year-on-year, while BMW India more than doubled its EV retail sales to 497 units. Kia India posted one of the strongest annual growth rates among established automakers, with sales rising to 449 units from 50 units a year earlier.

Hyundai Motor India was among the few manufacturers to report a decline, with retail sales falling 23.5 per cent sequentially and 40.9 per cent year-on-year to 352 units. Stellantis Automobiles India also recorded a year-on-year decline.

Overall, 31,823 electric passenger vehicles were retailed in June, taking EV penetration in the passenger vehicle segment to 7.7 per cent, up from 6.6 per cent in May and 4.8 per cent a year ago, according to FADA.
