Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese apologizes over comments about Kylie Minogue

BBC reported that the prime minister issued a formal statement after facing backlash from the public and within the political sphere. “I apologise unequivocally for the comments,” he stated regarding the comments he made last week while featuring on the ‘Bush Deep’ podcast with comedian Nikki Osborne.During the interview, the prime minister had been given three names: Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman and Rhonda Burchmore. He was then asked him to choose between the three stars as to who he would “shag, marry or date.” The interview occurred at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Canberra, and was heavily criticized by the public for being in poor taste. He stated, “Oh, Kylie, clearly”.However, he initially avoided the question, telling the interviewer, “I just got married, I’m only six months in.” In response, Osborne clarified and asked “You’d marry Kylie, and shag her, and date her?” To which he replied, “All of the above. She’s terrific.”Many people commented on the matter and called him out for playing the game and commenting about Kylie. Independent MP Zali Steggall stated that “He needs to learn to push back, lead by example and call it out as sexist.” Shadow Communications Minister Sarah Henderson further stated in her official comment that the remarks were “disrespectful to women, embarrassing to Australians and demean the office of Prime Minister. Rather than politely decline to engage, Mr Albanese got into the gutter with his grubby remarks, which show extremely poor judgement at a time when trust in Labour is collapsing.”While he received significant backlash, there have been no public statements about the matter from Kylie Minogue.
