Primer and good skin prep are essential for long-lasting makeup.

There’s nothing more frustrating than spending time perfecting your makeup only to have it melt away the moment you step outside. Humidity can wreak havoc on your look: foundations slip, liners smudge, and that fresh glow quickly turns into unwanted shine. But with the right tweaks, it’s possible to keep your makeup intact and still look effortlessly put together.

Shweta Rana, Professional Makeup Artist and Manager at Sinh Salon, Khan Market, Delhi, shares some expert-approved go-to tricks to beat the sticky weather and the latest beauty trends to try in 2025. From lightweight bases to must-have bridal staples, her advice proves that flawless makeup isn’t about heavy products; it’s about smart choices and fresh techniques.

Keep It Light and Waterproof

“When it’s humid, less is always more,” says Rana. “Waterproof mascara and eyeliner are your best friends, and keeping your base light ensures your makeup doesn’t slide off. A good makeup-fixing spray in your bag is a lifesaver. And if you have oily skin, blotting papers are a must.”

For foundations and blush, she recommends powder-based formulations over creamy ones. “Lightweight, compact-based foundations work beautifully in this weather. For blush, always pick a powdery texture,” she adds.

The Secret to a Flawless Base

If there’s one product she swears by, it’s primer. “Never skip primer in humidity. It helps your makeup last longer and gives you a smooth finish,” Rana explains. She also stresses skin prep. “Cleanse, tone, moisturise, as good skincare is the foundation of good makeup. If your skin is well-hydrated and prepped, your makeup will always look better,” she explains.

Different Skin Types Call for Different Hacks

Makeup isn’t one-size-fits-all. What works in the sticky heat may not suit someone with dry skin in drier climates. “If you have oily skin, long-wear and high-coverage products are best. Dry skin needs hydrating formulations to avoid looking patchy. For combination skin, balance is key. Use a primer that controls shine but keeps the skin fresh,” Rana suggests.

The right hack is knowing your skin type and tailoring products to match. This ensures your makeup lasts longer and looks seamless, no matter how humid it gets.

What’s Trending in 2025

When it comes to trends, natural is the new glam. Brides and beauty lovers are choosing barely-there bases, soft pastel tones, and fresh finishes that look like skin. “In 2025, brides and beauty lovers are moving towards natural, pastel tones. Gone are the days of heavy, full-coverage looks. Even lip trends are shifting: glosses and tints are dominating over bold mattes,” Rana observes.

This year, the focus is all about enhancing rather than masking. “The contour game has softened, too. It’s less about harsh lines and more about enhancing your features subtly,” she explains. Think luminous cheeks, dewy lips, and makeup that moves with you, not against you.

The biggest shift is towards balance – making makeup practical yet polished. Whether you’re a bride walking down the aisle or just navigating daily humidity, the key is investing in the right products, prepping your skin well, and letting your natural features shine through.
