Mani Ratnam and Vijay Sethupathi’s next untitled locks OTT deal

Mani Ratnam and Vijay Sethupathi's next untitled locks OTT deal even before filming commences

Director Mani Ratnam is all set to reunite with Vijay Sethupathi for an exciting new project after their successful collaboration in ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam.’ The upcoming film, which also stars Sai Pallavi in the female lead, has already generated huge interest among cinema lovers. Backed jointly by leading production houses, the yet-to-be-titled film will feature music composed by A.R. Rahman. Although the makers are expected to begin filming only in early July, the project has already made headlines for an important business milestone.

Netflix secures OTT rights even before filming begins

According to Cinema Express, Netflix has acquired the digital streaming rights to the film even before the cameras start rolling. The OTT deal is said to have been closed for nearly Rs 20 crore, making it one of the biggest pre-production digital deals for a content-driven Tamil film. While the amount is lower than the OTT value of Mani Ratnam’s recent big-budget films like ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ and ‘Thug Life,’ industry insiders point out that those projects featured larger-scale productions and star-studded casts. Even so, sealing a major OTT agreement before production begins reflects the confidence that streaming platforms have in Mani Ratnam’s storytelling and the film’s overall potential.

Sai Pallavi joins Mani Ratnam and Vijay Sethupathi for the first time

Tentatively titled Production No. 23, the film is expected to go on floors on July 5. One of the biggest attractions of the project is Sai Pallavi’s first-ever collaboration with both Mani Ratnam and Vijay Sethupathi. While the storyline and supporting cast are still under wraps, the film is said to be an intense romantic drama. It is now exciting to witness yet another wonderful musical combination by A.R. Rahman and Mani Ratnam on the big screen.

Expectations soar ahead for the forthcoming movie

Apart from all these things, the pre-release OTT deal further enhances the expectation level surrounding the movie. It clearly proves that this particular film has already received some good market value before its shoot commences. Mani Ratnam’s consistency, Vijay Sethupathi’s multi-dimensional performance skills, and Sai Pallavi’s rising fame have ensured that this film becomes the most awaited release of Kollywood. Official information about the name of the movie, first look, and other cast details is expected to be made soon. Till then, the recent Netflix deal has once again created buzz around one of the most awaited projects of Kollywood.
