Metallica donate after sold-out show at Principality Stadium

BBC reported that the rock band donated around GBP 20,000 to the Cardiff Foodbank charity after their show in the area was declared sold out. The group has its own charitable foundation that helps those in need, which is where the donations were made from. The money will be used by the charity to fund around 9000 meals.Talking about the donation, CEO of the organisation, Rachel Biggs said, “We had an email saying, ‘This isn’t a scam, please get in touch with the foundation.’ They said, ‘We are going to donate £20,000 to you.’ It’s an incredible amount of money which will make such a difference and replenish our empty shelves.” Biggs also revealed that it is one of the biggest donations made to them by a celebrity, for which they are utterly grateful. She further shared, “What’s great for us [is] it helps raise the profile and what Metallica are doing is mobilising their fans, mobilising the local community. When this donation arrives in our bank account we’ll be able to put in a bulk order and replenish stock and knowing the rest of the year we’ll have the support of the community.” She estimated that their management costs for this year will go up to GBP 700,000.Two weeks prior to the donation, the charity had posted online about funding scarcity and “empty shelves,” and had made a public appeal for donations to power meals for those in need as they were running out of required supplies.

About Metallica and their organisation

The group started their own charitable organisation back in 2017. They started it off with the main idea to ensure they give back a percentage of their overall sales to the community in some way. They have been continuously donating to foodbanks across the world wherever they have gone to perform.
