Ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli is currently on his Europe tour and has received a permanent place at the Cinémathèque Française in Paris. The event became even more special because Oscar-winning filmmaker Costa-Gavras attended the celebration and spent nearly eight hours watching Rajamouli’s films and the masterclass.

SS Rajamouli receives honour in Paris

The ‘Varanasi’ director shared his happiness on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, “Having me here in Paris and screening my films is itself an honour for me. But a sweet surprise I never saw coming. It is a feeling I cannot fully put into words. To have a permanent place in the halls of one of the world’s most legendary film institutions, named after the great Henri Langlois himself, is something I will carry with me forever.”Further sharing his gratitude, he thanked everyone who made the moment possible. “My deepest gratitude to the legendary Mr. Costa Gavras and the entire Cinémathèque Française family for this honour, and for embracing Indian cinema with such warmth and love,” he added. Interestingly, Costa-Gavras had planned to watch only RRR and return another day for Eega. After watching the first film, he changed his plan and stayed back with his wife for the rest of the screenings and the masterclass.

SS Karthikeya shares a memorable moment

SS Rajamouli’s son and filmmaker SS Karthikeya shared the special moment on his social media handle where he revealed, “The 93 year old Academy Award winner and legendary French filmmaker Mr. Costa Gavras came to watch RRR yesterday and told @ssrajamouli that he’ll come back for Eega tomorrow, skip Baahubali today. But we were surprised, he came today along with his wife and stayed 8 hours straight to watch both films and the masterclass. These are the moments that inspire us and remind why we are in cinema.”

SS Rajamouli’s next

On the current work front, SS Rajamouli is working on time travelling action adventure film ‘Varanasi’ with Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithiviraj Sukumaran in the lead.
