Remembering K Bhagyaraj through five classic films

Legendary Tamil filmmaker K Bhagyaraj passed away at a private hospital here on Saturday after suffering a major cardiac arrest. During his illustrious career the veteran artist has had a remarkable legacy in India cinema. He directed several big hits that have been enjoyed by the audience. Remembering him, let’s take a look at some of his most iconic films that made him one of the finest Tamil filmmakers.

‘Thooral Ninnu Pochu’

Directed by K. Bhagyaraj, the film is a romantic family drama that became a huge success released in 1982. It tells the story of two lovers who face family opposition and pressure. In the film Chelladurai and Mangalam fall in love while their arranged marriage is being planned. However, they are separated after the groom’s family demands an unreasonable dowry.

‘Mouna Geethangal’

Another romantic comedy family drama film, ‘Mouna Geethangal’ stars Bhagyaraj alongside Saritha. The film revolves around love, marriage, misunderstandings, and forgiveness in a sensitive way. It focuses on the emotional fallout of a marriage. With strong performances and relatable characters, it connected well with audiences and became a commercial hit.

‘Oru Kaidhiyin Diary’

The film is a crime thriller which came out in 1985 which also includes another Tamil cinema legend Kamal Haasan. This shows the journey of a man who is seeking justice after spending years in prison for a horrendous crime he did not commit. He returns back for vengeance on the three powerful men who are actually responsible.

‘Aakhree Raasta’

Released in 1986, the film features two of the biggest Bollywood stars including Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi. Written and directed by K. Bhagyaraj, in the movie we see Big B in a dual role as father and son. The action thriller shows a man fighting for revenge against the corrupt. The film became a major commercial success in Hindi cinema.

‘Sundara Kandam’

The film is a comedy drama which shows a young student having a crush on her teacher, who does not show any interest in her. However, things take a complicated turn when the professor gets married and she continues to create trouble in his life. Bhagyaraj’s witty writing, simple direction, and engaging screenplay helped the movie become a successful entertainer.
